OTHALON / V2.0
How Othalon calculates the Longevity Score
1. What the score means
Version 2.0 is an Othalon design-evidence index, not predicted years of life, an EU rating or a failure probability. It compares declared repairability, battery cycle durability, physical protection and guaranteed software support. Official source values remain separate from Othalon calculations.
2. Repairability without double counting
The official EU index (1–5) already includes a software-update component worth 15%. V2 subtracts that published component and divides by the remaining 85%, then maps the result from 1–5 to 0–100. When the component is absent, its value may be derived only from the official 5/6/7-year rule; otherwise this area is unavailable. The EU class itself remains official and is not a second score.
3. Other area rules
Battery cycles: 800 maps to 50 and 1,400 to 100, with a plateau above 1,400. Physical durability combines drop class (50% of that area), IP solid/water digits (35%) and Mohs rank (15%). Guaranteed software support maps 5 years to 50, 6 to 75 and 7 or more to 100. These anchors are Othalon choices, not EU life-expectancy thresholds.
4. Weights, missing data and reliability
The final index is 35% repairability without software, 25% battery cycles, 20% physical durability and 20% software support. We do not reweight missing areas. A total is shown only with every required input present and no contradictory fields. Coverage reports the weighted share of valid evidence; assessment reliability is a separate evidence rubric, never a statistical probability.
